Over the years, I’ve relised that the best mum bag isn’t the one packed with everything imaginable. It’s the one packed with things you’ll actually use.
Whether we’re heading to the park, running errands, going on a road trip, or spending the whole day out, there’s are the must have essentials I always keep in my bag.

Snacks
A hungry child can turn a good outing into a difficult one very quickly. I always keep a good few snacks in my bag just in case she gets a burst of hunger.
My Favourites include:
- Muesli bars
- Crackers
- Fruit pouches
- An apple or a banana.
Water Bottle
A reusable water bottle is one of the most-used items in my bag. Staying hydrated is important for both me and my daughter, especially on busy days out.
I like the spill proof and insulated water bottles for me and my daughter.

Wet Wipes
If I could only choose one item to carry, it might be wipes.
They’ve saved me from sticky hands, playground dirt, spills, unexpected mess, and countless other parenting situations
Spare Clothes
Accidents happen, even when you think you’re past the stage of needing spare clothes.
I always keep:
- A spare outfit (or two!!)
- Underwear
- Socks
You really never know when you’ll need them.
Spare Plastic Bag/ Wet Bag
This one isn’t spoken about enough but with accidents, messes. It’s important to have something to store them in so they don’t get on everything else.
Great for storing:
- Wet clothes
- Dirty shoes
- Unexpected vomit
- Rubbish when there’s no bins near by

A Spare Shirt For Mum
You really wouldn’t think you’d need it, but after spills, vomit, accidents, running around with your children there’s been so many occasions where I need a change of clothes. I like to keep one handy in my bag or car just in case.
Mini First Aid Kit
I like to keep a few basics handy:
- Bandaids
- Antiseptic wipes
- Children pain relief (if appropriate)
- Lip balm

Entertainment
A small activity can be a life saver when waiting at appointments or restaurants.
Some of my favorites:
- Colouring books
- Sticker books
- Travel toys
- Small notebooks
- Busy books

Hand Sanitiser
One of those things I don’t think about until I need it.
My Essentials
It’s easy to focus on what our kids need and forget about ourselves.
I always keep:
- Phone charger
- Sunglasses
- Lip balm
- Sunscreen
- Water bottle
- Pen & mini notebook

Final Thoughts
My mum bag has changed as my daughter has grown, but the goal remains the same: carry what helps make life easier without carrying everything.
The best mum bag isn’t the most organised or perfectly packed. It’s the one that works for your family.
